There is a very thin, very dangerous line between “Creative Director having a breakthrough” and “I haven’t seen the sun in three days.” Personally, I like to walk that line in a pair of oversized grey sweatpants.

We’ve all heard the tired advice about dressing for the job you want, but what if the job I want involves standing in a workshop at 2 AM, surrounded by sawdust and fabric scraps, debating the structural integrity of a sleeve? In that world, a stiff blazer is practically a restraining order.

Lately, my creative process has required a very specific uniform. I call it The Studio Paradox. It’s that precise intersection where a crisp, over-sized blue striped button-down meets the most unashamedly comfortable grey sweatpants you’ve ever owned. It’s professional from the waist up (for those inevitable Zoom calls) and “Sunday morning on a Monday” from the waist down.

There is something about the blue stripe, it’s classic, it’s collegiate, it says I have a plan. But pairing it with wide-leg sweats? That says I’m comfortable enough to actually execute it.

To keep the look from looking like I actually just rolled out of bed (even if I did), I added the Rhude bucket hat, because nothing hides a “deep in thought” hair day better, and a pair of satin pink sneakers that add just enough whimsical femininity to the utilitarian vibe. And the bag? A massive white slouchy hobo that fits my sketchbook, my laptop, and probably my hopes and dreams for the next collection.

It’s an outfit for the days when you’re building something from scratch. It’s messy, it’s thoughtful, and it’s undeniably authentic.
